USG Statement on Lawsuit Settlement of º¬Ðß²Ý Regents University Name

Atlanta — June 28, 2013

In September 2012, Regent University of Virginia Beach, Virginia filed a trademark infringement lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of º¬Ðß²Ý contending that the chosen name for the university created by the consolidation of Augusta State University and º¬Ðß²Ý Health Sciences University violated its trademark on the name Regent University. A settlement has now been reached that allows the Board to use the name º¬Ðß²Ý Regents University. Following is a statement by University System of º¬Ðß²Ý Chancellor Hank Huckaby.

“The Board of Regents of the University System of º¬Ðß²Ý and Regent University have reached an agreement to resolve the lawsuit Regent University had filed regarding the name, ‘º¬Ðß²Ý Regents University.’

“At the time the Board of Regents approved the name º¬Ðß²Ý Regents University, it was our conclusion that we had the right to use the name. This agreement confirms this conclusion and allows each university to promote and protect its name and brand.

“We are pleased to move forward in the development of GRU as an institution that will continue to make significant and lasting contributions to Augusta, the state, nation and beyond.â€
