Atlanta — October 1, 1999
“President Adams consulted me on his decision to continue to use race as one of a number of factors in a small portion of the admissions process at the University of º¬Ðß²Ý for the Class of 2000,” said University System of º¬Ðß²Ý Chancellor Stephen R. Portch. “I support his decision fully.”
“We will, working with the Attorney General’s office, continue to monitor any legal developments nationally,” Portch stated. “We also will continue to study how other states respond to the need for a diverse student body. The University System of º¬Ðß²Ý must be committed to serving all qualified º¬Ðß²Ýns.”
