Singleton Named New Deputy State Librarian

State Librarian Lamar Veatch, director of the º¬Ðß²Ý Public Library Service (GPLS), today announced the appointment of David Singleton, a GPLS project manager, as deputy state librarian, effective June 3, 2002.
As deputy state librarian, Singleton will assist Veatch in the management of the state’s public library services.
Singleton has served as the project manager for the º¬Ðß²Ý Library Public Information Network for Electronic Services (PINES) - which has enabled º¬Ðß²Ý residents to use one library card statewide - since late 2000. He has held several other professional positions in the public library field, including acting director, library services coordinator and resource-sharing/interlibrary cooperation consultant for GPLS; area manager for the Gwinnett County Public Library; and director of the Transylvania County (NC) Library.
“David’s education, experience and personal drive have proven to be very valuable assets to the º¬Ðß²Ý Public Library Service,” Veatch said. “With his leadership, I look forward to expanding our services, creating new ways to serve our citizens and promoting the growth of º¬Ð߲ݒs public libraries.”
Singleton holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature and a master’s degree in library science, both from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
GPLS is a unit of the Board of Regents of the University System of º¬Ðß²Ý. Veatch’s title within the University System is assistant vice chancellor for library development and services.
